- The drinks will be sold at Checkers’ in-store prices.
Before the end of the year, South Africans will be able to order ice-cold liquor from Checkers’ LiquorShops on the Mr D Food app.
The offering will be rolled out at 60 Checkers LiquorShops in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, with further expansion planned in 2019.
Neil Schreuder, Head of Strategy and Innovation for the Shoprite Group, said the liquor will be sold at in-store prices and delivered via the Mr D Food service. Mr Delivery recently rebranded as Mr D Food.
A selection of beer, wines and spirits will still be cold when it arrives at consumers. Non-alcoholic beverages such as soft drinks, juice and water will also be on offer.
Schreuder said the group considered several options before partnering with Mr D Food.
“It’s all about providing our customers with swift service on demand and ultimately giving precious time back to them. We’re excited to offer this service at scale.”
The Mr D Food app has already been downloaded by more than 1 million South Africans.
Users will be able to order the drinks like any other order from a restaurant on the application, Devin Sinclair, Head of Mr D Food, said.
“Adding a national liquor store partner to the more than 2 600 restaurants already on the Mr D Food platform will allow us to offer our customers even further choice and convenience,” Sinclair said.
