DRIFTCity Roars Back to Life in Cape Town This Weekend

by InnsCape

Get ready to immerse yourself in the adrenaline-pumping world of drifting as DRIFTCity returns to the heart of Cape Town’s city centre this weekend, marking its triumphant comeback after a four-year hiatus.

Drifting, often regarded as the art of manipulating a car’s balance by skillfully disengaging and re-engaging the clutch, inducing rear-wheel grip loss, and executing controlled oversteering and countersteering, will take centre stage in this thrilling motorsport spectacle.

The iconic Grand Parade will undergo a dramatic transformation into a sprawling 3000-square-meter drift arena, complete with a challenging time-attack obstacle course. Here, 30 of South Africa’s finest motorsport talents will engage in fierce competition, battling it out on Sunday.

DRIFTCity promises to be a high-octane extravaganza, set against the historic backdrop of City Hall and The Castle of Good Hope. This event is not just for motorheads; it’s a perfect Sunday Funday outing for motorsport enthusiasts and families alike.

Expect to be awestruck as South Africa’s top drifters showcase their skills, executing manoeuvres reminiscent of Vin Diesel’s iconic style, which demands a delicate balance of speed, smoke, angle, and precision. The ultimate accolade, the title of DRIFTCity Champion 2023, hangs in the balance.

While drifting takes centre stage, the event will offer much more. A lifestyle exhibition area will feature SMME exhibitors presenting their industry-related products. Live entertainment, a bustling food village, go-karts, and a dedicated kids’ fun zone will keep everyone entertained.

To amplify the excitement, custom cars and motorcycles will be on display. Sound demonstrations, spectator drift ride-alongs, and a special addition this year – the Custom Car Show segment in partnership with Meguiars SA – promise an epic experience. Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 24th, when this electrifying event kicks off. Gates will open at 11 am, ensuring you have ample time to soak in all the action.

Tickets are available at Computicket, starting at R150 for general access standing, R280 for unreserved grandstand seating, and R400 for a VIP experience that includes a grandstand ticket, access to the competitor pit area for a front-row view of the action, and exclusive access to a ‘pit pass only’ bar and lounge area.
