SA bands together to thank health workers

by InnsCape

South Africans across the country have begun gathering in their backyards and balconies at 8pm every evening to thank our health workers for their relentless work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Not only have South Africans been participating in the trend, but residents of countries across the world too. The trend was created by Annemarie Plas, a Dutch yoga teacher, who said she wanted healthcare workers across the world to know that the citizens of their countries appreciate their hard work and self-sacrifice during the pandemic.

On Tuesday, March 31, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde asked Capetonians to support the #ThankYouWC campaign. This is an effort to celebrate all essential workers, including doctors, nurses, farmworkers, supermarket staff and all the other people who work to ensure the province makes it through the pandemic.

“We thank you for your service,” he said.

Residents are asked to hang the flag from their doors and windows as a show of support and solidarity for essential workers.
